Getting Started

What is Snapity?

Snapity turns event posters and messages into calendar events automatically. See a concert flyer? Got a party invite on WhatsApp? Just snap a photo or copy the text, and Snapity extracts the event details for you.

First Launch

When you first open Snapity:

  1. Welcome Screen - A brief introduction to what Snapity does
  2. How It Works - See examples of how to use the app
  3. Terms & Privacy - Review and accept our content policy
  4. Camera Permission - Allow camera access to snap photos of posters

After completing these steps, you're ready to start capturing events.

Main Interface

Snapity has three input modes, accessible via tabs at the bottom:

  • Camera - Take photos of posters and flyers
  • Gallery - Select images from your photo library
  • Text - Paste or type event details from messages

Sharing from Other Apps

You can also share content directly to Snapity from other apps:

  • Share images from WhatsApp, email attachments, or any app
  • Share text from emails, websites, or notes
  • Look for the Share button in other apps and select Snapity

Using the Camera

The camera is perfect for capturing event posters you encounter in the real world.

How to Capture a Poster

  1. Tap the Camera tab
  2. Point your phone at the event poster
  3. Make sure the text is clearly visible and in focus
  4. Tap the shutter button to capture

Tips for Best Results

  • Good lighting - Ensure the poster is well-lit without glare
  • Steady hands - Hold the phone still to avoid blur
  • Full visibility - Include all the event details in the frame
  • Readable text - Make sure dates, times, and locations are legible

Zoom Controls

  • Pinch to zoom - Use two fingers to zoom in or out
  • Zoom buttons - Tap + or - for precise zoom control
  • The zoom level is shown on screen

After Capture

Once you take a photo:

  1. You'll see a preview of your captured image
  2. Snapity's AI analyzes the image (this takes a few seconds)
  3. The extracted event details appear for your review
  4. Tap to add the event to your calendar

Use the gallery to process screenshots, saved posters, or images shared with you.

How to Select an Image

  1. Tap the Gallery tab
  2. Your photo library opens automatically
  3. Browse and tap the image you want to process
  4. Snapity analyzes the selected image

What Works Well

  • Screenshots of event announcements
  • Photos of posters you've saved
  • Event flyers shared via messaging apps
  • Screenshots from social media or websites
  • Image attachments from WhatsApp or email

Screenshots: A Powerful Shortcut

Taking a screenshot is often the fastest way to capture event details:

From websites:

  • Eventbrite event pages
  • Facebook events
  • Meetup listings
  • Venue websites
  • Any webpage with event information

From apps:

  • Facebook event invitations
  • Instagram event posts
  • Email newsletters with event announcements
  • Any app showing event details

How to use screenshots:

  1. Take a screenshot of the event (power + volume, or your device's method)
  2. Open Snapity → Gallery tab
  3. Select the screenshot
  4. Snapity extracts the event details

Sharing Images Directly

Instead of saving to gallery first, you can share directly to Snapity:

  1. In WhatsApp, email, or any app, find the image
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. Select Snapity from the share options
  4. The image opens in Snapity ready for analysis

This works with:

  • WhatsApp image attachments
  • Email attachments
  • Images in any app with a share button

Tips

  • Crop images before selecting if there's lots of irrelevant content
  • Higher resolution images give better results
  • Make sure text in the image is readable

Using Text Input

Text input is ideal for event details from messages, emails, or verbal invitations.

How to Use Text Input

  1. Tap the Text tab
  2. Paste text from your clipboard, or type directly
  3. Tap Analyze to extract event details

Copying Text from Messages

From WhatsApp, SMS, or other messaging apps:

  1. Long-press on the message containing event details
  2. Tap Copy
  3. Open Snapity and go to the Text tab
  4. Tap Paste or long-press and select Paste
  5. Tap Analyze

Copying Text from Websites

You can highlight and copy event details from any website:

From event websites (Eventbrite, Facebook, Meetup, etc.):

  1. Open the event page in your browser
  2. Long-press and drag to select the event details (title, date, time, location)
  3. Tap Copy
  4. Open Snapity → Text tab → Paste → Analyze

This is often faster than taking a screenshot, especially for text-heavy pages.

Sharing Text Directly

Some apps let you share highlighted text directly to Snapity:

  1. Select the text containing event details
  2. Look for the Share option in the menu (not all apps support this)
  3. Select Snapity from the share options
  4. The text appears in Snapity ready for analysis

Apps that often support text sharing:

  • Safari and other browsers
  • Mail and email apps
  • Notes apps
  • Some news and reading apps

Note: Not all apps enable text sharing. If you don't see a Share option after selecting text, use the copy/paste method instead.

What Text Works Well

Snapity understands various formats:

  • Casual invites: "Drinks at The Eagle, Friday 7pm"
  • Detailed messages: "Dave's birthday party on Saturday 15th March at 3pm, 42 High Street"
  • Formal invitations: Meeting details with full dates and locations
  • Email excerpts: Copy the relevant event information

Tips for Text Input

  • Include the date, time, and location for best results
  • Relative dates work too: "tomorrow", "next Friday", "this Saturday"
  • You can edit the text before analyzing if needed
  • More context helps: include the event name or description

Advantages of Text Input

  • Faster processing - No image analysis needed
  • 100% accurate text - No OCR errors
  • Works offline - For the input step
  • Edit before sending - Clean up or clarify details

Understanding Results

After Snapity analyzes your image or text, you'll see the extracted event details.

What Gets Extracted

  • Title - The name of the event
  • Date - When the event takes place
  • Time - Start time (and end time if available)
  • Location - Venue name and/or address
  • Description - Additional details from the source

Event Types

Snapity recognizes different event types:

Single Events

  • One-time events with a specific date and time
  • Examples: concerts, parties, meetings

Event Series

  • Multiple related events with different dates
  • Examples: festival lineups, conference schedules
  • You can select which events to add to your calendar

Recurring Events

  • Events that repeat on a regular schedule
  • Examples: weekly classes, monthly meetups
  • Choose how many occurrences to create

Reviewing Results

Before adding to your calendar:

  1. Check that the details are correct
  2. The calendar editor allows you to modify any field
  3. Add notes or adjust times as needed

Calendar Integration

Snapity works with your device's built-in calendar.

Adding Events

After reviewing the extracted details:

  1. The calendar editor opens with pre-filled information
  2. Make any changes you need
  3. Tap Add or Save to create the event
  4. The Calendar app opens to show your new event

Supported Calendars

Snapity works with any calendar app on your device:

  • Apple Calendar
  • Google Calendar
  • Outlook
  • Other calendar apps

Event Details

Each calendar event includes:

  • The event title
  • Date and time
  • Location (if detected)
  • Full description with original poster/message text
  • A note that it was created by Snapity

Multiple Events

For event series or recurring events:

  • Select which events you want to add
  • Events are created individually in your calendar
  • Each event includes context from the original source

Troubleshooting

"No event detected"

This means Snapity couldn't find event information in your image or text.

Try:

  • Ensure the image contains clear event details (date, time, title)
  • For text, include more context about when and where
  • Check that the image isn't too blurry or dark
  • Make sure the text is in English

"Analysis failed" or timeout errors

This usually indicates a network issue.

Try:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Move to an area with better signal
  • Wait a moment and try again
  • The app will suggest retrying

Image processing takes too long

Large, high-resolution images take longer to process.

Try:

  • Wait for processing to complete (up to 30 seconds for large images)
  • Use the gallery to select a cropped version
  • Take a closer photo of just the event details

Calendar event not appearing

If the event doesn't show in your calendar:

Check:

  • You tapped "Add" or "Save" in the calendar editor
  • You're looking at the correct date in your calendar
  • The correct calendar is selected (if you have multiple)

Wrong date or time extracted

AI extraction isn't perfect. If details are wrong:

  • Edit the event in the calendar editor before saving
  • For ambiguous dates (like "Friday"), verify the correct date
  • Add more context in text input to help the AI
